Today, 25th March, is Lady Day. All Mothers’ Union groups try and meet to worship on this day, something that is happening in 84 different countries across the world. Because, this year, the day falls in Holy Week some branches will be celebrating the day on the 8th April. The thoughts of Holy week and what we are trying to do in Carlisle are linked. Easter is the end of darkness, the coming into light. We joyfully celebrate with Jesus at the Last Supper. we struggle with Him on Good Friday and then we await the resurection
The Mothers’ Union is trying to ensure its own New Life, as habits change. We learn from the past as we prepare for the future. we might need to do things differently but the prayer, fellowship and care for families will remain steadfast. The collect for Sunday is relevant to the Mothers Union as we celebrate Lady day and like the butterfly, aim to transform!
Almighty and everlasting God, who in your tender love towards the human race sent your Son, our Saviour, to take on human flesh and suffer death upon the cross, grant that we may follow the example of His patience and humility and be partakers of his resurrection
We met with the contingent from Northern Argentina at St Andrew’s Penrith on a very cold and snowy day. We enjoyed worship together, sharing of what we do and lunch. We went home inspired. You can share that inspiration by taking part in the service via a memory stick that has been given to each Deanery!
Flavia is holding the Mate cup which holds a traditional drink. Everyone has their own straw and drinks from the same cup whenever they visit a house. We tried it too!
We had a good time at the Annual Gathering in York. The service was brilliant (after a very wet wait outside and the Archbishop’s sermon was inspiring. Here are a few photos (rather belated as the web editor was out of action for a few months!
